Pitti Uomo: by today, the 81st edition
Pitti Uomo: the 81st edition of the famous fashion fair coming soon with many new ideas and surprises
Starting from today Florence will host the 81st edition of Pitti Uomo Immagine, against the picturesque backdrop of the Fortezza Da Basso. This is the top event of Italian men’s tailoring which this year promises even more surprises and new ideas than in the past.
The prestigious men’s fashion fair, taking place in the Tuscan capital from January 10th to January 13th, is considered an unmissable event by industry insiders and, this year as always, an influx of a large number of buyers and journalists from around the world is expected, besides the presence of many prestigious Italian fashion brands and others, who have the opportunity of showing their new men’s fashion collections for the next fall-winter 2012/2013 season at this event.
In a space of about 59,000 square meters (these are the dimensions of the Fortress hall that accommodates most of the Pitti Uomo events) more than 950 brands, divided into 11 groups, will go down the catwalk, taking advantage of this invaluable Florentine shop window to capture the attention of the more than 23,000 buyers (about 7000 of which are foreigners) that, are estimated to be visiting Pitti Uomo.
The latest news anticipated for this 81st edition of the top fashion festival, starts with the participation, for the first time, of the McQ contemporary line of Alexander Mc Queen and of the Jimmy Choo shoe collection.
The biggest surprise, however, (confirmed only a few days ago) is the participation of Valentino fashion house at the 81st edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo. The company, run since 2008 by designer directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, will be showing the preview of their men’s collection for the coming fall-winter season 2012/2013, bringing the “men’s line” to the catwalk for the first time. The location that will set the scene for Valentino’s men’s collection is still secret, but it is likely that one of the most atmospheric places of historic Florence will be chosen and the date of the show is anticipated as the evening of Wednesday, January 11th.
One side of the hall will also host the “craftsman of the future”, a section showcasing emerging designers, while another section is reserved for “online e-Pitti” which – as affirmed by the President of Pitti Immagine, Mr. Gaetano Marzotto – is tasked with promoting the Made in Italy concept, helping Italian fashion compete against new emerging countries.
This edition of Pitti Uomo will see the presentation of the new Fall-Winter 2012/2013 collection created by designer Andrea Pompilio, winner of the 2011 edition of “Who is on next?”, the competition promoted every year by Pitti to reward the merit and talent of emerging artists. The show will take place on Thursday January 12th at the “Spazio Alcatraz” of the Florence Leopolda station and it will be open to viewing for the duration of the Pitti event, at the Sala delle Nazioni della Fortezza da Basso, in the “Men’s Future” section.
Besides Pitti Immagine Uomo, however, we mustn’t forget the other big fashion event that takes place at the same time: the 9th edition of Pitti W Woman, Pitti’s salon-event dedicated to special women’s fashion projects.
For the occasion, about 70 international brands will be previewing their women’s fashion collections and capsules for the next fall-winter season 2012/2013, in the setting of the Dogana di Via Valfonda.
For this edition of Pitti W Woman too, the main objective will be to show more and more specialized collections in Florence, with focussed selections of accessories that characterize quality and attention to detail, but also a more interesting price – quality ratio.
