“Nova età” in Florence
We’ve just been looking at important fashion events such as Pitti and Milan Fashion Week, ( for the men’s autumn-winter 2009/2010 collections), and we thought that this unusual fashion event, taking place tonight was definitely worth mentioning too. Nova età (“New age” in English) is a special fashion evening brought about thanks to the cooperation of the Province and Quartiere 1 with several Italian fashion schools.
The event will see forty old women (aged between 75 and 94) accompanied by forty young girls wearing the clothes of the 50’s alongside those of today. About 160 students, have taken part in the organization of this evening! They have created the new dresses and rediscovered the vintage ones stuffed inside old armchairs or in vintage clothing shops but they have also put together all the music, lighting, videos and pictures that will be shown during the event.
Many schools have collaborated in this initiative. All the students who have created the clothes will be present at the show. Among them, there could well be some budding stars of the fashion world. Maybe a great new designer is already born and is growing up in their midst.
The aim of this event is to celebrate and respect the old women who originally wore these fashions as young girls themselves and to commemorate the first catwalks held in Florence in 1951.
It is fascinating to see the old ladies in modern dresses and young women in vintage dresses, representing the connection between past and present, the importance of respect for everyone, also in the fashion world.
