How to preserve a luxury exotic handbag.

What can you do to keep your luxury exotic handbag always as gorgeous and perfect as on the first day you bought it?

luxury accessoriesLuxury accessories, to be considered as such, should satisfy some specific criteria, among which there is the resilience and the long life of the product itself; but how can our items last over the years if we don’t take care of them? How can our genuine python handbag stand up to liquids spilling on the leather or to prolonged exposure to strong sunlight?

It’s very important to know that even high quality luxury products can be irreparably damaged if not protected and preserved in the right way. So, when we decide to buy a luxury accessory, (above all if it is made of a prestigious leather such as crocodile, python or ostrich) we have to be aware that, because it is a natural product, we should pay attention its proper usage, avoiding unpleasant incidents that could compromise the beauty and the long life  of our item.

So, what can you do to keep your luxury exotic handbag always as gorgeous and perfect as on the first day you bought it?

As we have already indicated in our previous articles, keeping a luxury exotic accessory as gorgeous as at the moment you first hold it in your hands is very easy, given that our exotic leathers are all treated in our tanneries with a protective material, before being cut and adapted to create the item itself, to prevent them from fading.

However, they still remain 100% natural leathers and, for this reason, it is good to follow some simple rules to prevent damage:

  • Don’t overfill your exotic leather product. We always indicate resilience among the most important qualities characterizing our items, given that exotic leathers (and python skin in particular) are more elastic and pliable than other leathers and can adapt better to the shape and the weight of the handbag itself. However, if you want to retain the natural beauty of your exotic leather accessory, we suggest that you avoid overloading it and try to distribute the weight uniformly, in order to prevent your bag or your wallet being stretched out of shape.
  • Don’t expose your genuine exotic leather item to direct sunlight (above all in the summer when temperatures are very hot) as the excessive heat of sunlight beating against the leather, can dry it out, making it rough to the touch and irreparably damaging your handbag. Once it has dried out, we can’t do anything to repair it and your item will lose all its charm and its softness.
  • Don’t leave your bag next to direct sources of heat such as radiators, air conditioners or fireplaces, because, in this way too, the exotic leather could get dry and lose all its brightness.
  • Prevent any type of liquid from falling on your exotic leather bag because, as mentioned before, exotic leather too is 100% natural leather and therefore, it absorbs any type of liquid. If it’s only water falling on your item, it should be alright because water will dry naturally  without staining but, if any other liquid ( a cocktail, coffee, red wine and so on…) spills on your bag, it could form stains which are very hard to remove and the beauty of your product could be irreparably compromised.
  • Avoid wearing your exotic leather bag if it is raining because the rain too, wetting your item could damage the leather, making it darker and opaque. It may happen that it starts raining when you are already out and you can’t avoid your bag getting wet. In this case, try to protect your item as best you can, and when you get back home, please let your bag  dry naturally. Never use a hairdryer to blow dry it nor use any form of direct heat to dry it more quickly.
  • Frozen temperatures too could dry out and damage exotic leather products, so, if you are planning a winter holiday in the snow, we suggest you leave your bag at home.
  • If you won’t be using your exotic leather accessory for a long period, please store it in your closet, making sure you place it in its own cloth bag (the one containing your handbag when you first received your purchase) or, if you don’t have that anymore, you can store your bag inside a white cotton pillowcase), so that your handbag can be protected from dust and keep all its beauty. Please don’t put any exotic leather item inside a plastic bag because, exotic leather, being a natural product, needs to be protected by a breathable material and a plastic bag wouldn’t let it breath, causing mildew and nasty odors, and damaging your item.

By following these few simple rules, we can assure you that your luxury exotic leather product will remain gorgeous and refined for a long period, always retaining all those special qualities that made you fall in madly love with it as soon as you saw it.
